American artist/photographer Clyde Butcher had the vision to buy 13 acres in Big Cypress Swamp - and you can experience it, too. The Swamp Walk (or the longer Photographer's Walk) 'in" Big Cypress Swamp (yes, you're walkin' IN the water), smack dab in the middle of the Everglades (between Naples/Venice and Miami on the Tamiami Trail), is amid alligators, water moccasins and in the bosom of nature - it is not to be missed! This is a "bucket list" check-off. Treat yourself to a night or two at the Bungalow, if in season crack fresh stone crabs from Grimm's (Everglades City) and eat under the chickee, and chill listening to the sounds of the swamp. The next morning when you're sipping coffee and looking out the second-floor window, you'll see the resident alligator glide effortlessly into the swamp pond. Before you get the bagels out of the toaster, the gator has moved on into the darkness and magic of the swamp, and you're there left to marvel at the beauty of the primordial cypress trees, moss and birds that surround you.
